Using Your Main Keyword In Your Domain Name For Top Rankings In The Search Engines
Your domain name is extremely important in order to assure a high ranking in Google with a minimum link building effort.First of all, you need to pick your main keyword. In most cases, this will be the highest traffic keyword from the list you prepared in the previous step. However, this could also be the keyword with the strongest buyer intent – for example, a product name, or something like: “Product ABC Review”.
Now, you need to search for an available domain name that contains this keyword. You can also research different variations of your keyword: Using hyphens to separate the words of your keyword phrase, no hyphens at all, plural version, singular version…
For example:
- ProductXYZ210.com
- Product-XYZ-210.com
- ProductXYZ210s.com
I try to avoid domain names with more than 3 hyphens. This may raise some red flags with Google – however, I’m not sure about this.
I strongly recommend that you stick with .com , .net and .org domains. I know, .info domains are tempting, because they are cheaper. However, I felt that they are more difficult to rank. Also, when you check your competition for various keywords, you will rarely find .info domains in the top 5.
Once again, make sure to use your main keyword in your domain name, this gives you a huge ranking advantage.
Here are some great places to buy domain names:
Namecheap.com – that is the service I use for almost all of my domain names. They have a great admin console that allows me to easily manage my 70+ domain names. Prices are relatively cheap and it is quick and easy to change the nameserver settings.
GoDaddy.com – I use the Auctions.GoDaddy.com section to buy cheap aged domains with existing link authority and Google PR. Here you can find 2 year+ old domain names with Google PR2 for $15-$25.
