Linkwheels And Link Magnets

link magnetA few years ago, increasing the ranking position of a webpage using a basic linkwheel was a pretty effective strategy. Unfortunately, Google caught up quickly and this strategy no longer works.

On the other hand, so-called link magnets still work very well and may allow to boost the rankings of a webpage (for a low-medium competitive keyword) quite significantly. Link magnets are similar to linkwheels, but there are some important differences.

Let’s have a quick look at how you can build a simple link magnet:

The most basic link magnet consists of 5 different Web 2.0 properties that link to each other and to your money page (on your main website) in a very specific way. 4 of those Web 2.0 properties form a structure that is similar to a traditional link wheel and the fifth Web 2.0 property acts as a gateway to your money page and this is also the only Web 2.0 site that links to your money page – the remaining 4 web 2.0 sites don’t directly link to your money page.

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how you can build such a link magnet:

Those link magnets can be extremely powerful. I had sites that were stuck somewhere at position 25-30 and 15-20 days after building a simple link magnet, those sites jumped to position 5-10 and with some additional links I got them into the top 3 in Google.

Just be aware, this technique works very well for low-medium competition keywords, but it won’t be sufficient to rank for high competition keywords.

The link magnet I showed you in this blog post is the most basic one. There are also other ones that are more complex, more powerful, but also more time consuming to create.
