LSI Keywords

related keywordsWhat are actually LSI keywords?

That’s just a fancy name for related keywords or synonyms. LSI stands for latent semantic indexing, which is an algorithm that’s used by Google and other search engines to evaluate the content of a webpage.

So, why are those LSI keywords important?

In the past (years ago) it was fairly easy to improve ones search engine rankings by a technique called keyword stuffing, where you simply repeated your main keyword over and over throughout the page content.

Of course, keyword stuffing no longer works and you even risk to get a penalty for using this technique. However, what you can do is to mix various LSI keywords into your content. That’s not black hat, on the contrary it allows search engines to better determine what your page talks about and to rank it for the right keywords.

This technique works especially well for so-called sniper sites. These are very simple blog sites with 4-6 content pages that focus entirely on one single low-medium competition keyword (and of course a bunch of related keywords) and that promote a specific affiliate product.

By the way, if you are interested in building sniper sites, I recommend you take a look at George Brown’s Google Sniper 2.0 – in my opinion the best marketing course for building successful sniper sites.

Where can you find those related keywords

That’s actually very simple. Open the Google AdWords keyword tool in a browser window, type in your main keyword and click the search button. Just make sure the returned keywords are ordered by relevancy (click the “Sorted by Relevance” button).

The very first keyword that shows up in the list will be the one you enteres into the search box and the keywords below are the ones that Google considers to be the most relevant – those are your LSI keywords.

Copy the first 10-15 keywords in the list, delete the ones that are not relevant for your article and use the others together with your main keyword in your page content. Ideally you should use 5-10 LSI keywords in your article. Just make sure that the content flows nicely and remains interesting for the reader – don’t just force a large number of synonyms into your page content.

Also, don’t forget: your main keyword remains the most important one. So, use it in your title, description, H1 tag and 2-5 times throughout your article (depending on the length of it). Try to use your main keyword in the first and the last paragraph of your article. You can also add an additional related keyword into your title and description together with your main keyword.

Using this simple technique will not only allow you to rank better for your main keyword, but it will also allow you to rank for your various LSI keywords and to generate additional traffic.
